It’s like living out an all-American adventure with genuine redskin pride.  You know your terrain and are fierce enough to brave the wilds.  You are ready to sit down by the campfire and share stories of old, long before the West was won.  You are already in winning form just by wearing Indian Princess Costumes like Pocahontas Costumes.

Pocahontas is a pet name which means someone who is playful or willful. It falls in character with the American Indian princess Pocahontas who was daughter to Powhatan, chief of the Algonquin tribes that inhabited the Tidewater regions of old Virginia.

She is the brave young girl who rescues Captain John Smith from being executed by her father, the chief.  Tales which romanticize her life say that Pocahontas subsequently falls in love with Smith, and the man is just as hopelessly smitten with her beauty and character.

Aside from saving John Smith, Pocahontas is also famed to have helped settlers begin their early life there.  To save them from imminent starvation and certain death, she provided them with food and tipped them off on attacks and ambushes.  In return she would also negotiate with the English for the release of her fellow natives.

At one point, it is mentioned that she was captured by the English and held captive. At this time, she is instructed on Christianity and given the name Rebecca. The tale goes on to say that the relationship between Smith and Pocahontas was ill-fated because the captain tragically dies or so she hears.  Since then, she stops visiting the English colony altogether.

It is not clear, however, who she married and settles down with afterward.  Such fortune is attributed to John Rolfe with whom she has a son named Thomas.  This marriage is said to generate a period of peace between the Indian natives and the English colonists.

Pocahontas goes on to visit a land foreign to her own as she sets sail for England.  She is treated as royalty during her visit, but she receives a painful shock to discover that Captain John Smith is still alive after all.  Her story quietly ends as she contracts a disease and dies as she is preparing to leave for home.

Her poignant life story is worthy of a song as beautiful as “Reflection” as sung by Christina Aguilera.  The beautifully-inspired character of Pocahontas has led to the creation of an all-time favorite movie and an all-time favorite soundtrack.  It has also led to the creation of all-time favorite Indian Princess Costumes.
